pH . . Kevin Patton and Thomas Helton
pH is a duet with contrabassist Thomas Helton that uses custom interactive software to alter, in real-time, Thomas' improvised performance. More than simply 'intelligent' effects routing, this system performs real-time analysis of Thomas' playing and responds differently depending upon the specific techniques he is using.
The resulting sound world presents an improvised hybrid somewhere between man and machine, jazz and electroacoustic music, creating a maximalist, psychedelic experience.
