FRESNEL released! Fresnel is a series of recordings with venerable Houston saxophonist and improviser Seth Paynter. Fresnel features Seth playing soprano saxophone, mizwiz, a north African double-reed double-flute, and bahu, a Chinese metal-reed bamboo flute. He is playing through Kevin's listening instrument brundleFLY that responds to elements of Seth's playing through audio analysis. A dense sound-world that is as frequently solitary as it is wild, Fresnel explores the solo improvisation in prosthesis. The computer wraps itself around Seth, extending and altering his sound to create a multiplexed monophony that sounds as ancient as it does futuristic.

Fresnel was recorded at the REMS Lab studios, Rice University, Houston Texas.

Here is a recent video excerpt of the Digital Poplar Consort, showcasing a more minimal side, live in concert from the International Computer Music Conference (ICMC) in Montreal. This is three of the instruments with the Fossil being performed by Maria del Carmen Montoya, the Pogo by Kevin Patton and the MouthBox by Peter Bussigel.

Special thanks to the wonderful pianist Xenia Pestova who took the video and was kind enough to put it on youtube.
